I've seen the other post with a similar title, but I'm having a different problem.

I create the host using the New Host Wizard. When I finish, I don't see the host listed in Configuration->Hosts (even if I logout and log back in again to "refresh").

If I go to Configuration->Hosts->Search and enter the hostname it shows up as a result of the search, but it still doesn't show up in the Configuration->Hosts list.

If I then go to Configuration->Controls and tell it to do a Pre-flight Check, it will give me an error indicating that that host has no contact groups defined (I never saw a place in the new host configuration to set this). If I pull up search, locate the host, edit it to add the Contact Groups, I find that the contact groups that I add never gets added. It tells me that the change to the host was saved, but if I go look at it again, there' s no change.

The host never shows up in the list no matter what I do, yet it seems like it's kind of half there, but not enough to be usable. I was trying to look in /usr/local/groundwork/nagios/etc to see if it changed any files (like hosts.cfg) and it did not. However, it's my impression that with Monarch (which I don't entirely understand) it might not be making changes there.

Hi Mark,
There is a bug we are aware of. If there are no services for a host, it will not show in the Hosts tree, but it will show under the search results. It could be that you did not completely finish the Host wizard.
When you get to the last page in the Host Wizard where it asks you to select services, please do one of the following:
- In the "Select service profile" list, select a service profile (gwsp-service_ping for example) then select the Add Profile button. This will add the ping profile for the host.
- Or in the "Select other services" box,select one of the services then select the "Add to list".
You should then see the service added to the list. The host tree should the show the added host.

You can also fix this by adding services to the hosts you already created.
1. Go to Host Search and select the host. You should see a Manage Host page.
2. Select the Services tab (right most tab on that page)
3. In the Add Services list, select some services then hit the "Add Service(s)" button.
4. Select a File.
5. Select the Host menu tab to refresh the Host tree (sorry, another bug. The host tree should automatically refresh without you having to do this).
Your host should now be there. Let me know if this doesn't resolve the problem. These bugs will be fixed in the next update.

Cool. Thanks, Peter. That seemed to work. I did notice that when I added the service from the Hosts->Services tab (and I forgot to select the services.cfg file after I clicked on the service) that it did not actually make the change. That is, I selected the service but left the "file" blank. and hit the "Add Services" button. I then got the red text indicating that I needed to select a file. I then selected the services.cfg file from the drop-down and since the service I had selected previously was already selected, I left that alone and hit Add Services again. It did not seem to add the service. I started over and made sure to select both the first time and it worked. So I think there's some bug with not adding the service after you've been warned about not entering the file.

Otherwise, worked fine. I now see the host in the main host list.

I can create a new host using the host Wizard, visible in Configure, but not visible in Status. I have followed al the recommendations in the other parts of the forum, but to no avail so far.
I can see nagios2db_event <defunct> in 'ps -A' on the management server.
Status shows a single host (localhost) even though Configure shows three hosts.
In MySQL, browsing the Hosts table in database sv I can only see one host. It appears that the nagios connection to MySQL is not working and neither and the hosts are not being shared between the components.

To implement the change in Nagios, you need to do a commit. Go to Configuration tab, control menu option. First select "Preflight Check". This will tell you if you had any errors in the configuration process. If no errors are reported, select the "Commit" option. That will implement the changes you made in the configuration tool into Nagios.
