I guess I must be super-noob, cuz I am really struggling. The included commands and service checks seem to be only checking the localhost (where nagios is installed) Could you point me to getting the localhost to check all the other external systems as desired? I really appreciate your time. The groundwork solution looks great so far, I only hope I can make it a reality pretty soon.
Nagios 2.0 on SuSE 10
GroundWork Monitor 4.5 M1.3
Thanks guys! |

Hi, Thanks for trying out GroundWork Monitor. You can use our configuration tool to configure the system to monitor remote systems. This is described in detail in the Bookshelf tab under GroundWork Reference, Administrator, Administrator Guide, Section 5 - Configurating GroundWork Monitor using Monarch.
Here is a quick overview of the process.
1. Log in as admin/admin.
2. Go to the Configuration tab.
3. Select Hosts (this is the default page that comes up).
4. Select New Host Wizard. Follow this wizard to define remote servers. You can select the services that you want to monitor on that remote system.
5. Go to the Control section.
6. Verify the changes with Preflight Chack.
7. Commit the changes.
Depending on the type of service you want to monitor, it can get a little more complicated. Monitoring services provided by the remote system (ie, ping, http, dns, tcp port, etc.) is pretty straightforward. If you want to monitor things like cpu, memory, disk, etc. you may need to install plugin scripts on the that system and provide a method to connect to that system (for example SSH access, also described in our Bookshelf under Profile Definitions). There are other methods for Windows applications (ie wmi, nrpe, nsclient, etc) and network devices (snmp).
By the way, an upcoming update to GroundWork Monitor will include a simplified configuration tool that attempts to make this process easier by providing some import and discovery features. This should be available in a few weeks.

Yeah, I have been through many new hosts for all my WAN, but when I test the services I get only stats for localhost
I think they are inheriting a template from the copy I did for many of the first ones.
I should probably go though the templates...
Still trudging through. |

Hmmm. The services should be getting the host address from the host definitions. It may be that the service definitions are not properly defined to do this. If you can let me know what services you are trying to assign, I'll check into this.
