GroundWork Names Ranga Rangachari Chief Executive

GroundWork Open Source Solutions Inc., a provider of open source-based network monitoring software, said that it has named Ranga Rangachari Chief Executive.

Rangachari replaces co-founder Robert Fanini, who will remain with the company focusing on market development and strategic relationships.

Prior to joining GroundWork, Rangachari was CEO and founder of enterprise storage company Invio Software, which was acquired by Veritas in July 2004. Prior to Invio, Rangachari spent 11 years at Legato Systems, now part of EMC Corp., and held various sales, product management and strategic planning posts.

Groundwork's flagship application, GroundWork Monitor, which enables business to monitor network availability and performance via a Web interface and automatically alerts IT staff via pager, e-mail and phone about problems. Eventually, GroundWork will also offer IT dashboard and IT configuration management applications.

The company has raised $8.5 million across two rounds of financing from investors including Mayfield and Canaan Partners.

The Emeryville, Calif.-based company has roughly 40 employees.
