GroundWork Open Source Solutions Inc., a provider of open source IT management software, said that it has named Phil Bradley to the newly created post of vice president of sales.

Bradley was previously vice president of sales with nCircle Network Security Inc., a provider of vulnerability management devices. He has also served as vice president of sales for Inktomi Corp., and has held sales positions with Documentum Inc., Odesta Systems and Wang Laboratories Inc.

At GroundWork, Bradley will work to expand the company's direct sales and to develop channel partners, said co-founder and Chief Executive Robert Fanini. In the coming year, the company plans to more than triple its current five-person sales staff, he said.

To support the growth, Fanini said Groundwork is currently raising Series B financing, and is targeting more than the $3 million the company raised in its 2004 first round. Fanini declined to elaborate on a target amount for the round, or when it would close.

GroundWork's software is designed to help companies monitor network and application infrastructures. GroundWork Monitor, the company's flagship product, transforms unsupported open source code into enterprise IT management software by adding functional enhancements as well as deployment services and ongoing support.

The company has about 50 customers, and targets mainly small to medium-sized businesses in the financial services, biotechnology, manufacturing, entertainment and government sectors.

Formed in 2003, GroundWork has raised $3 million to date from Canaan Partners. The Emeryville, Calif.-based company has 25 employees.
