GroundWork Open Source Taps Tony Barbagallo as
Vice President of Marketing; Moves Offices to San Francisco

IT operations management software provider appoints
industry veteran to drive product management,
channel marketing and communications strategies

San Francisco, CA—January 31, 2006—GroundWork Open Source, Inc.—a leader in open source-based IT operations management solutions—announced that it has named Tony Barbagallo as vice president of marketing. Barbagallo is an industry veteran with more than 20 years of global marketing, channel sales and product management experience. Named among CRN Magazine’s “Top 50 Channel Chiefs” in 2003, Barbagallo will oversee GroundWork’s product management, corporate marketing and channel marketing as well as expand the company’s presence within the open source community and into new global markets. Barbagallo is the latest executive to join GroundWork’s seasoned management team, following the appointment of Ranga Rangachari as CEO and Phil Bradley as vice president of sales. Barbagallo’s appointment coincides with the company’s relocation from Emeryville, CA to new offices in downtown San Francisco, a move designed to accommodate the company’s continued growth.

Previously, Barbagallo served as senior vice president of marketing at EVault, a provider of online backup and recovery systems, with responsibility for strategic marketing and product management initiatives. Prior to that, Barbagallo served as vice president of sales and marketing for Dantz Development, a storage provider, where he oversaw the return of the company to profitability and subsequent acquisition by EMC. Barbagallo has also served as group marketing manager at Microsoft and has held executive and management positions with Mentor Graphics, Wind River, Sun Microsystems and General Electric.

“In 2006, Groundwork’s focus is on developing our channels, expanding our position in the open source community and continuing to offer industry-leading open source IT operations management solutions,” said Ranga Rangachari, CEO of GroundWork. “Tony is uniquely qualified to play a pivotal role across all three of these strategic areas.”

“For years, companies have been forced to choose between functionality and cost when it comes to IT operations management—and all but the largest companies had virtually no viable options. By leveraging the benefits of open source, GroundWork has completely disrupted this dynamic, which is why in just 18 months the company has more than 100 customers,” said Barbagallo.

“I’m excited to be with GroundWork during this time of rapid growth and expansion in the global marketplace.”

GroundWork’s decision to move its headquarters to San Francisco follows a series of important milestones in 2005—from closing the company’s 100th subscription of GroundWork Monitor and launching three open source projects, to inking partnerships with Novell and Palamida and raising $8.5 million in Series B financing from Mayfield and Canaan Partners.
